One Small Thing
Lately, I’m thinking about small touches.
The kind that don’t show up on a to-do list.
A kind word at the bank window.
A real thank you at the checkout.
None of it is big.
But it leaves little ripples.
And somehow, we both walk away a little lighter.

I’m starting to believe that homes are shaped the same way.
By small, consistent touches.
A wiped counter.
Watered plants.
A chair pushed back into place.
Not dramatic.
Just enough to change how a room feels.
Big projects have their place.
But it’s the small, everyday touches that make a house feel like home.
I’m starting to think of my home as something that breathes easier when I tend it.
Maybe peace is built in this way.
Not with big gestures.
But with small encounters where we see each other as human.
Equal.
One small thing.
Sometimes, one small thing is enough.
If you’re walking this path with me, I wrote more about this in a reflection on letting today be where my life happens.

Across cultures and generations, people have found words for this kind of balance.
For living in a way that’s enough.
The Swedes call it lagom.
Not too much.
Not too little.
Just enough.
I don’t think of it as a rule.
More like a way of noticing when something is already enough.
Choose just one.
One small thing in the garden
Water plants
Clean one garden tool
Check the seedlings
One small thing in the house
Wipe one counter
Reset one surface
Light a candle
One small thing in your day
Say a real thank you
Step outside
Write one sentence
This week, I cleared one space.
I let that be enough.
Today, I’m not asking what I can finish.
I’m asking what I can tend.
One small thing is enough.
